definition of afip

The acronym AFIP is the abbreviated way of designating the Federal Administration of Public Revenues of the Argentine Republic. It is an autarkic type body that depends on the Argentine Ministry of Economy, that is, it is self-sufficient but clearly follows the guidelines of the economic policy drawn up by the government of the day.

Its main task is to apply, collect, collect and control the revenues and taxes of the nation.

Organisms that compose it and their functions

It is made up of three bodies that work under its direction: the General Tax Directorate (DGI), the General Directorate of Social Security Resources (DGRSS) and the General Customs Directorate (DGA).

The DGI deals specifically with the collection of taxes, and in those cases that correspond to establish sanctions and fines for those taxpayers who do not effectively comply with the law.

The goodwill of taxpayers to comply with the law is always appealed to, however, in practice this does not happen many times and then it is necessary for an organization like this to take care of identifying and intimidating those who do not comply with their obligation. .

For its part, the DGRSS has the exclusive function of collecting and distributing the contributions and corresponding contributions to social security. This direction works jointly with the Ministry of Labor of the Nation. It should assist those Argentines who need it by providing money or services when they are affected by circumstances that demand protection, such is the case of maternity, work accidents, unemployment, illnesses, among others.

Finally, the DGA is the body in charge of applying the current regulations on the import and export of goods and services. It is also in charge of the control of all goods that enter Argentina. In this sense, its work is very relevant because it preserves state assets and also that illegal goods do not enter or that harm the health of the population.

During the Exchange Stock, he authorized or not the purchase of dollars

In recent years, as a result of the installation of the so-called Exchange Stock, a restriction measure for the purchase of dollars established by the Cristina Kirchner administration to stop the outflow of foreign currency from the country, the AFIP had to play a leading role since it was the body to which people had to go online to obtain permission to buy dollars.
