Social

definition of superego

The superego is a concept used within Freud's psychoanalytic theory. The author specifies that the superego is the sum of that information that the subject has internalized from beliefs that could have been painful and that in most cases were learned by family influence in a first stage of life through the indications of the norms that differentiate what was right or wrong and also, through those prohibited acts according to family values that produce a direct influence on the moral of the subject throughout his life.

Influence of the social environment

However, not only the family has a great influence on the formation of the adult personality but also society has a notable influence on the environment.

The cultural environment of a person and the influence of social customs also creates an imprint on the subject's personal perception of certain actions.

The structure of the human mind

Freud concludes that there is a structure of the mind that is classified into three areas:

1. The id (also known as Ello) is that section that integrates information about possible traumas and data of consciousness that are unconscious. From this point of view, this part is the most inaccessible to the subject. A dark part of the personality.

2. Another section of the human mind is the Ego (also known as I). At this level of reality, information about the objective self passes, that is, it shows the conscious part of the mind. The ego is governed by the pleasure principle but in this realm of reality, the human being can reflect between duty and pleasure, assessing the consequences of actions.

3. The third section is the Superego (also known as Superego) refers to the moral conscience that makes specific judgments. This section shows those moral thoughts that have their origin in the education received during childhood and in the social environment. It is a structure that arises as a result of a process of internalization of the figure of the father (theory of the Oedipus complex in Psychoanalysis).
