definition of avenue

The term avenue is one that is commonly used to designate a type of transport route that is located in cities but is usually wider or wider than the rest of the streets that cross a city. The avenue generally has higher speed limits than those of a street and in many cases can represent an important walk not only for motorists but also for pedestrians due to the significant flow of movement that it generates in its surroundings.

While a normal street can have between two to three lanes for cars at most, the avenues can have twice that number and even more if they are especially wide or double avenues as is the case, for example, of 9 avenue of Julio in the city of Buenos Aires. The avenues are an element of great importance in the urban setting since they are the ones that allow a greater flow of cars and vehicles, even favoring the circulation of certain types of heavy vehicles such as buses, buses, trucks or buses that usually they cannot circulate so easily on normal streets.

The avenues tend to be connected to each other or to be connected to important sectors of each city in order to further favor the circulation of both public and private transport. The possible closure of avenues for different causes such as spare parts or protests of any kind immediately mean profound alterations to traffic.

One of the most interesting things about avenues is that as they are always one of the main transport routes, they tend to become areas that are heavily traveled not only by cars and vehicles but also by pedestrians, both locals and tourists, which makes the space that surrounds them normally have great tourist, economic, entertainment or gastronomic activity.
