definition of shopping

The English word shopping It is the one that refers to the act of buying, exchanging a commodity for a certain amount of money or its equivalent. However, today the term is used worldwide and even in places where English is not the main language to designate those artificial spaces specially created for people to consume a great diversity of goods, services and products. Shopping centers or shopping centers are considered by many to be the clearest expression of capitalism and globalization since they concentrate indoors an infinite variety of purchasing and consumption possibilities.

Although the notion of market, fair or spaces for exchange or barter of products and services has existed since ancient times, it would not be until the first decades of the 20th century that the notion of shopping would slowly begin to appear. With the development of the phenomenon known as globalization and especially capitalism spread worldwide, these spaces in which people can find all kinds of products and goods expanded globally as well.

Shopping centers are the same in all parts of the world: in general we are talking about multi-story buildings in which we do not find offices or houses, but mainly places for the sale of a wide variety of products that can range from the simplest (such as , library items) to the most complex or expensive (novel and exclusive technology products, cars, etc.). Other features that characterize shopping malls are that they are generally specially designed as promenades in which people circulate permanently and there is no escape from the permanent presence of all kinds of offers and products. Shopping malls also have a wide variety of services and amenities that seek to invite people to stay there: food centers, spas, cinemas and spaces for entertainment, breaks, etc.
