definition of confrontation

A confrontation implies the action and also the effect of confronting one person with another, with a group, or vice versa. Normally, those involved in a confrontation are involved as a consequence of some disagreement or conflict on an issue that involves them. In other words, the confrontation is always the product of the lack of agreement between two parties.

In all areas of life there are confrontations between people, groups, entities, countries, among others, regarding common interests, ideas, ideologies, or the way in which some issues are appreciated or resolved; in some cases they are resolved harmoniously, that is, by talking and agreeing to follow a common path to avoid encountering disagreements again.

And in other situations, the results are not good at all and the opposing parties end up settling their differences through force, either in hand-to-hand fights or in armed combat. In this type of action, each side will use its strength and weapons to violently impose itself on the other and dominate it.

On the other hand, in the field of sport it is frequent that we come across this word, which is widely used to account for the sports match between two teams, in the case of team sports or two-player sports, in those individual sports. The confrontation between Boca and River ended in a draw at zero.

The rivalry that is established between the teams and the players generates special and long-standing confrontations and then, every time the confrontations have to see each other in a field of play, nobody wants to miss that confrontation.

Among the most used synonyms for this word stands out that of combat, while the word that opposes is that of agreement, which just refers to the conformity to which people arrive after an argument about something.
