definition of closed circuit

left open circuit. On the right closed circuit with electron flow.

We have a closed circuit, it is as its name says, a route through a metal cable or conductor of electricity, through which the electric current circulates. The fact that a circuit is closed, comes to say that the current or electrons, goes from one side of the circuit to the other. In other words, the electrons travel from the beginning of the circuit to the end.

We have a wire, on both sides of the wire there is a current or potential difference. The potential differential consists in that on both sides of the cable, there is a difference in polarity, positive and / or negative. This potential difference causes the electrons to move from the negative point or pole to the positive point or pole. That "trip" of electrons from one side of the circuit to the other. In other words, the trip that these electrons make from the negative pole to the positive pole is what in electronics is called a closed circuit. The electrons will be circulating through the wire or closed circuit until the potential difference runs out. Let there be no more electrons that go from the negative pole to the positive.

If between these two poles, we put some resistors, capacitors and transistors, we will obtain an effect of voltages (or potential differences) that will produce a series of effects. The effects produced by the passage of electrons are calculated by engineers in order to develop the machines that we buy in our local appliance store. Whether they are washers, dryers, laptops, televisions etc. etc.

When we enter a room and turn on the light switch, what we are actually doing is closing a circuit that is open. We close it and the lights in the room come on. Turning on the lights is equivalent to a closed circuit or that the electrons circulate. Every time we press the power button on our laptop, we close a circuit that raises the current voltage to power the laptop monitor, lowers the voltage of the current to power the keyboard, normalizes the voltage to 5 Volts so that the ports USB work and charge our phones.

So with each and every device of the computer or any other electronic gadget. As the name suggests electronic gadget it is where electrons circulate and of course whenever an electronic device is turned on and connected to any type of current. It is said to be in a closed circuit. Although vulgarly we say by rule that it is on.
