definition of landscaping

The landscaping is a artistic activity which has become very popular in recent years and which consists of the modification of the physical characteristics of a geographical terrain, whether urban or rural, to give it a special beauty and also create a beautiful and welcoming landscape.

Activity associated with art and that consists of modifying a terrain to add beauty and comfort

Now, among those physical, visible and animated characters of a landscape that can be modified and manipulated are: the flora and fauna that prevail in the place, the forms that the terrain presents, the intrinsic natural elements, the creations of human beings such as buildings, bridges, and abstract elements, among the most important: the climate.

Then, from the introduction of some concepts of design, creative and imaginative skills, plus a sharp quota of observation, the professional who is dedicated to this activity, which is known as landscape, treats natural spaces, such as parks or gardens, or urban ones, with the mission of protecting and conserving them and in addition to providing them with a particular aesthetic that is attractive to those who contemplate them or to their users.

The development of this professional activity demands knowledge of disciplines such as agronomy, architecture, ecology and sociology, since it works in conjunction with living beings and natural environments.

Landscape classes

Meanwhile, there are four well-defined kinds of landscapes: the English landscape, the modern landscape, the sustainable landscape, and the moving landscape.

English, also known as autochthonous, stands out for its simplicity and deprivation.

Do not overload it because the idea is precisely its simplicity, some plants on the grass, the trees are the protagonists, leaving the flowers for corners or fences.

If we had to equate it with some design movement, English undoubtedly has many coincidences with minimalism; and as one of its most emblematic cultists said, such as the German architect and designer Ludwig Mies van der Rohe: “less is more”.

For its part, the modern landscape makes use of art in every sense, for example, plants are used to create very real figures.

Sustainable landscape, as its name already tells us, is the one that is most in tune with caring for the environment and rationalizing the use of resources, that is, reusable elements will be used for its creation, such as: bottles as pots, and rainwater as a basic irrigation method.

And landscapes in motion will be characterized by allowing plants and vegetation in general to be, that is, that they grow naturally, only intervening when an annoying invasion occurs.

Harmonize, to improve the quality of life

Well applied and understood landscaping will be one that harmonizes the intervening elements: soil, relief, water, vegetation, among others, and matches them with the uses and customs of the place and the client's preferences.

Create a harmonious relationship between the human and the ecosystem so that it improves and promotes the quality of life.

It should be noted that this activity and its result may well be considered as works of art, since it will represent and express the feelings and ideas of its author.

As we indicated above, in recent years, this activity has reached enormous popularity and, undoubtedly, a great deal has had to do with it the need of people to rediscover the beauty of the landscapes and get away a little from the stress caused by the activities everyday life and the "city" landscape.

Artistic photography or pictorial genre that portrays landscapes with exclusivity

On the other hand, the word landscaping designates the artistic photography of landscapes and also to that pictorial genre that is especially dedicated to representing landscapesIn other words, the plastic artist observes a landscape and then captures it in a drawing.

Human beings are surrounded by nature and although many spaces have been intervened by man to satisfy their needs and demands, there are many natural landscapes on the planet that comfort the view, which are places of tourism and recreation and which, for example, are also the object of desire of photographers and visual artists who approach them to portray them.
