That which lacks life, mobility and full of uselessness
The term inert is used to refer to that which is characterized by the lack of life, mobility or its uselessness. "The hands of the expedition members were left inert as a result of the intense cold they experienced while they were lost."
So when something is inert it is because it lacks life or reaction to a stimulus. Normally the concept is linked to inefficiency and immobility and can be applied in various fields to precisely express these ideas.
If a body is inert, it will not present any movement and that may be due to fainting, which is an issue that can be modified, that is, the body can regain mobility after an animation, or the inertia can be caused by death.
Unproductive people
On the other hand, the concept is repeatedly applied to those people who are characterized by unproductive, negligent, useless behavior, ineffective and therefore characterized by inefficiency.
Thus, when a person is appreciated who does not like to work or to carry out any other type of activity that implies a commitment to action, movement, in order to achieve a goal or end, it can be classified in terms of inert.
The other side is the action
The other side, of course, will be the active person, who is diligent and efficient in his behavior and performance.
From the foregoing, it follows then that appearing inert is a characteristic that will be valued as negative in contexts where what is demanded is action and predisposition when acting. And therefore, if an active profile is sought, whoever is inert will not be able to be taken into account for the job.

In biology all those things that do not present mobility by themselves will be called inert. Rocks, for example, are considered inert bodies.

On the other hand, when a person does not show any type of emotion in their life and more than anything he is abstracted from everything that surrounds him, without participating in talks, relationships, among other issues, it is often said that this or that remains inert before the emotions and feelings of life.
We are in a position to define something like inert matter when the organizational level that it presents is far below the organizational levels that, on the contrary, if it presents living matter; the stone is made up of elementary particles, like atoms, molecules, but without presenting organelles.
Chemistry: body that remains without action even combined with another
AND at the behest of Chemistry, the term inert is used to refer to that body that remains inactive even having combined with another, such is the case of inert gas.
Because an inert gas, also called noble gas is a type of non-reactive gas under certain conditions of chemical work on it. The best known and most popular inert gases are nitrogen and noble gases.
For example, in the case of nitrogen, it is difficult for it to react at room temperature, a high temperature will always be necessary for it to do so.
This type of gas is used mainly in some chemical reactions in which it turns out to be necessary to cancel the presence of a reactive gas; oxygen in some welding processes.
