definition of diversity

The term diversity is the one that allows us indicate, mark or talk about the variety and difference that some things can present between them, although it is also useful when wanting to point out the abundance of different things that coexist in a particular context.

In the context of a community, for example, we find that there are different types of diversities: cultural, sexual or biological, among the most recurrent.

Cultural refers to the multiplicity and interaction of various cultures that can occur in a particular region and that coexist in the world. In this sense, and to preserve it, it is vitally important that the countries that hold it have an adequate and effective plan for their preservation and promotion that makes them seek integration because they feel this openness that the place offers them to develop and evolve. , respecting the codes alien to their culture and of course also achieving the pertinent respect for their own, even when they are far from the generality.

Obviously this situation in many places on this beautiful planet is still almost a utopia since it is often recurrent that cultures considered a minority always suffer from neglect and ignorance of the rest as a result of the lack of state policies tending to respect and value them as such. Meanwhile, the UNESCO body, as of November 2001, has established itself as a kind of oversight and comptroller body of this type of issue, opening a public space in which cooperation is offered in this regard.

On the other hand, we find sexual diversity that refers to the diverse sexual orientations that human beings adopt. The usual classification speaks of three orientations: homosexual, heterosexual and bisexual.. Sexual diversity, in recent times, has become one of the demands that more people congregate in the world. Numerous organizations that defend the rights of gays and lesbians tend to demonstrate in favor of this through days called gay pride, which take place every year in much of the globe.

And finally we meet the biological diversity or biodiversity that is one that refers to the wide range of species that populate the planet earth, as well as the natural patterns that have been shaping them for thousands of years of continuous evolution. But in addition to the different species, biodiversity includes the great variety of ecosystems that surround us and the genetic differences of each species that give rise to the multiple combination of life forms.

The preservation of biodiversity is one of the great global concerns and that is why it is part of one of the conventions most defended by the United Nations, known as the International Convention on Biological Diversity and that was celebrated back in the early decade of the decade. of the seventies.
