The photomontage is the technique that consists of combining two or more photographs in order to create a new composition. The English Photographer Henry Peach Robinson He is considered the promoter of the photomontage, since he was the first to use the aforementioned technique shortly after starting his professional career in the year1857.
By the way in which the process is carried out, we could equate the photomontage with the collage (artistic technique that consists of assembling different elements into a unified whole), since in the case of photomontage, different photographic clippings are started, then joining them into a whole, on some occasions, the composite of photographs is photographed until an image is obtained final.
Photomontages are used especially in those circumstances in which it is sought to obtain certain images that in no way could be achieved from a natural photograph, either because, for example, it is unfeasible due to the nature of the objects in question; another case because it is impossible to bring together two personalities in the same area, or because they are severely estranged or spatially distant. A photograph in which Bin Laden and George Bush appear embracing would be a true case of photomontage.
In its beginnings, photomontage was one of the many faces of modern art, since it turned out to be a form of artistic expression used precisely by different artists who, through it, generated criticism of art, culture, among other areas. Different situations were combined in a photograph with the mission of creating a new individual and expressing some order different from the one established according to the time.
Currently and of course thanks to the benefits that new technologies give us, photomontage is a very easy technique to perform and to achieve in just a few minutes of work. Many programs such as Adobe Photoshop and the Pixel Image Editor they make the task much easier than before, in addition to offering us a really amazing precision in the photographs.
