definition of bedroom

We understand by bedroom the space or room of a house specially designed for the rest of one or more of its inhabitants. The bedroom is also one of the only spaces where the idea of privacy is implicit compared to other spaces of common use such as the kitchen, bathroom or dining room. Due to this, each person decorates, assembles and orders their bedroom according to their personal preferences, the style may differ greatly between members of the same family, especially if we are talking about people of different generations (such as grandparents, parents or children), as well as in terms of gender or the number of people who use it.

One of the most defining elements when it comes to characterizing a bedroom is, without a doubt, the bed. This furniture element is what gives the bedroom its entity since the main activity to be carried out in it will be sleeping, although this is normally accompanied by other tasks such as study, work and recreation. The bedroom is then complemented by other furnishings such as desks and chairs, night tables, wardrobes and cabinets, electronic objects such as computer, television, radio and music system, etc.

At the same time, the decoration of a bedroom can be established based on the colors of the walls, the fabrics, the presence or absence of carpets, the type of furniture and other decorative elements such as paintings, posters, drawings, memos, stuffed animals, etc.

It is important when designing and organizing a bedroom to take into account some basic elements. First of all, the bedroom should be of an appropriate size: it should not be too small (as it could create a feeling of suffocation), but not too large (because that can at the same time create a vacuum). The lighting and ventilation of the environment are essential elements when it comes to obtaining comfort and relaxation. Finally, the arrangement of the furniture and the best use of space will make it possible to take full advantage of the architectural characteristics of the environment, generating more space in the case of being scarce or occupying empty spaces.
