definition of urbanization

The action and result of urbanizing an area or a person

In a broad sense, urbanization refers to the action and result of urbanizing. The word urbanize basically has two very widespread uses, on the one hand, it refers to the construction of houses that is carried out on a land that has been previously delimited for this purpose and provide it with all those necessary services, electricity, gas, telephone, among others, to later be inhabited by families, couples, among others.

And the other use that is attributed to urbanize is that of make a certain person who is not sociable or who has certain difficulties when it comes to starting conversations with people, either out of shyness, lack of practice, among other situations.

Residential center made up of houses with similar characteristics, provided with services and facilities and located on the outskirts of a large city

Then, from the foregoing it follows, that urbanization or an urbanization will be that residential center composed of houses that have similar characteristics and that are provided with the aforementioned services and certain facilities and that are usually found on the outskirts of a large city.

For the latter is that traditionally those constructions dating from an old rural environment along with other neighboring towns are called urbanization.

How does the urbanization take place?

Meanwhile, urbanization is a process that will require a series of steps and elements to achieve it ... Those lands on which the urbanization will settle must first of all be divided into polygons and later into rural blocks to complete the second step. The blocks will always be delimited through streets or roads and will be made up of parcels which must always have access to the street.

Basic services

Regarding the necessary services, previously mentioned, the plots will be those that will or will not have them, electric service, sewerage, drinking water, sewer system, garbage collection, drinking water, public transport, which are the most basic ones that yes or it must have an urbanization to be considered as such and also to function properly. And generally, it is usually stipulated that between the various blocks into which the developable land is divided, a place should be reserved especially for green spaces, such as parks, gardens for common use, among others.

A task that corresponds to the state

The development of urbanization in the various cities of a nation is a task that corresponds to the national, provincial or municipal states, as appropriate. In order to carry out this urbanization action, generally, the works that will consolidate this urbanization are tendered by public tender, such is the case of the electricity lines, the sewage system, among others.

A promise especially in developing countries

Unfortunately and unbelievably in some countries, conforming urbanization is still a promise that is not fully fulfilled and then it is possible to find areas very close to city centers in which there is still no electricity, gas, sewage system, among other hyper-necessary services to guarantee that the neighbor can live in a comfortable and dignified way.

A paradigmatic case is that of the shanty towns, almost all of them installed in urban centers, and that as a consequence of the precariousness that they present in every aspect their urbanization is delayed, complicating not only the daily life of those who live there but also of those who they live in its surroundings.

Corruption and political mismanagement are without a doubt the main stumbling blocks for urbanization policy. Politicians more concerned with getting rich or benefiting some areas to the detriment of others, and laziness, are the main reasons found in those places where urbanization even in the 21st century is a debt.

The urbanization rate, an indicator linked to the development of the country

We must emphasize that the rate of urbanization that a country presents is a clear and concrete indicator of the level of development that that country presents. In other words, if the urbanization rate is high, this will show that the country has high urbanization, while if the number is low, it will speak of a low urbanization, and in case of poor urbanization. The least developed countries are those with a low rate in this regard.

However, we should also indicate that although today the world urbanization rate is high, in many presumably advanced places, there is a deficit in this matter, as we have already indicated above.
