definition of mellow

The term mellow is a qualifying adjective that is used colloquially to define a person or animal that acts in a loving and kind way, perhaps excessively. The notion of sweet comes precisely from molasses, that substance that is highly sweet, sticky and even a little dense or heavy that is obtained from different natural elements and that is used as a sweetener in various preparations. Molasses can be obtained from sugar cane, although in many cases honey is also considered molasses, and its extreme sweetness is precisely what comes from the concept of honeyed.

The term mellow in most cases implies a positive appreciation of the person, as long as it is implied that that mellow person acts in such a way because of their affection and interest in the other person. Usually it is considered that a person is mellow when he demands a lot of affection and love, when he is constantly aware of the other and seeks to spend his time with him. Kisses, hugs and caresses are perhaps the most common forms of physical contact established by a person informally considered as honeyed. Many times, cartoons and children's characters usually have honeyed characters that are tender, affectionate and sweet, ideal for teaching children the values of love towards others and permanent affection to carry out any type of daily action.

However, the adjective of mellow can also be used negatively when that attitude becomes exaggerated. In a sense, the honeyed person already implies being a little more affectionate and clingy than normal, so the concept is a certain exaggeration. In some cases, people who act in this way can become extremely aware of the other and that can easily generate conflicts in any type of relationship (not only in love ones).
