definition of obedience

Comply with those that someone who is at a higher level sends us

Obedience refers to the fulfillment of what is commanded, that is, of what an individual orders another who is at a lower level to do, normally, fulfilling the will of the one who commands, or failing that, of what he is mandatory.

Obedience generally works through proposal of a series of prohibitions and obligations that will require, either the realization or the avoidance of the execution of certain prescribed actions.

Meanwhile, always, obedience will imply subordination of the individual will to a figure who emanates authority, be it a person, a group, a concept. There are people who express their obedience to God or to a political ideology, for example.

Obedience classes

There are different types and levels of obedience ...Child obedience It turns out to be the natural subordination that children express to their parents as a result of the family integration process.

Secondly, solidarity obedience It is that which happens when an individual accepts the decisions of a group despite not being totally in agreement with the actions that they are told to take.

Another type is the due obedience that is part of criminal law and it implies a circumstance that exempts from criminal responsibility for those crimes that were committed in compliance with an order issued by a superior. The subordinate will be exempted from all guilt and charge even if he is the material author of a crime typified by the corresponding law. The criminal sanction is transferred to his hierarchical superior.

The type of due obedience is recurrent that appears in the trials in which the armed forces are involved, because in these cases the subordination to the superior is really very rigid and the capacity for free action by the subordinate is practically non-existent.

If an officer, his superior orders him to commit a crime and he complies with it, then, he will be able to rely on due obedience to escape from the judicial position that corresponds to him.

And the priestly obedience , as its denomination already anticipates us, it is the one that the priests declare with respect to their respective ordinaries, the bishops and in the case of the congregations, their superiors.

Essential to guarantee order in a society and in any other area

Obedience is a necessary issue in society to guarantee order and harmony, because if there is no obedience to the rules, to what our parents tell us that we have to do, among others, it would certainly be difficult to live together harmoniously because Each one would do what he pleases and some abuses against the rights of others could be committed in the name of freedom. For this reason, always to the extent appropriate, obedience is good and healthy for good social coexistence.

So, in almost all existing organizations and institutions a hierarchical system prevails that allows effective organization and order.

The work environment, for example, is one of the contexts in which people must, yes or yes, follow orders from others, generally from a higher authority, or from someone who holds a higher position than ours.

The heads or managers of certain areas of a company or organization will be in charge of drawing up guidelines that make the organization and work activity and the rest of the employees or subordinates must respect and comply with them. Obviously if this does not happen, the employee may be plausible of receiving some punishment.

And of course, the same scheme can be transferred to other areas of life.

The law was created precisely so that we can all live in a civilized way. If we all respect the regulations, we will have the most harmonious coexistence that can be had, while, if the law is violated, the error must be assumed and the punishment that ensues will be accepted. Depending on the cases, there may be a fine that the offender must pay, or a prison sentence.

The behavior opposite to obedience is disobedience. And by the way we must say that this contrary behavior can only be justified in those cases in which what is imposed, is commanded is unfair or illegal. In this case, ignoring the rule or mandate will not be frowned upon but will be justified.
