Fumigating is an action that is carried out in houses, apartments, buildings, other constructions and fields and that consists of the disinfection of those spaces from gas or smoke. The main mission of fumigating the aforementioned places is to prevent the presence of insects, rodents and other species, or failing that, to totally decimate them when it is already known that they have formed a nest. That is, an open area or closed place is purified through a chemical agent called a fumigant. We must emphasize that these substances are capable of penetrating the most recondite spaces such as holes, grooves and cracks.
Depending on the type of pest to be fought, a certain type of fumigation and also a specific substance will be used. Cockroaches, mosquitoes, ants, rodents, flies, are the main targets of spraying.
In open spaces such as public squares, or in the fields, it is usual to carry out fumigation when there is an invasion of mosquitoes, or to prevent pests that affect crops, respectively.
The fumigator is the most commonly used machine through which it is fumigated and in those cases in which a large area must be covered, such as in the fields, it is fumigated from light aircraft.
Fumigation can be carried out by the homeowner from the purchase of the products intended for this purpose, or a company specialized in that service can be hired. Of course, the most advisable thing is that the task is carried out by suitable personnel because the substances used are normally toxic to humans and domestic animals and, for that matter, it is very important that the handling is carried out by people with knowledge.
In medicine: administration of drugs by steam
On the other hand, the concept has a use in the field of medicine, less widespread than that indicated above and that designates that action of administering drugs, remedies, via steam. The person may be placed indoors with steam, or the patient should inhale the medicine. Many asthma patients must undergo this type of medication delivery modality because it is the most effective.
