definition of quantity

A quantity is the portion that exists of something that is capable of being measured and numbered, for example, objects, people, money, among others. It should be noted then that there are issues, usually abstract ones, such as happiness or affection that cannot be measured.

Meanwhile, that amount, that measured portion, may be considered, valued as excessive, normal, or little, depending on the context or thing in question.

With this we also want to realize that the amount will always be plausible of increase or decrease, a fact that will of course be subject to the circumstances that surround it.

With an example we will see it more clearly ... if the plate that they have served us to eat overflows with food, it is because they have given us a huge amount of food, while if on the contrary the food does not even cover the entire surface we can argue that have served us little quantity.

Obviously, depending on what is capable of being measured and the subjectivity of the person, something may result in a large quantity while something else may give us the idea of a small quantity.

The possibility of determining the quantity of something, that is, of being able to measure it, is very important because it allows us, for example, in a purchase to indicate the quantity we need or want to acquire. If we go to the greengrocer, for example, we will ask for the amount of a fruit or vegetable that we know is what we consume or what we need. So we can order two kilos, three kilos, etc. or order three, four, five or eight apples.

And this situation recently exposed in the previous paragraph can be transferred to other contexts ... if we know that the apartment we want to buy costs 100,000 dollars, and we do not have that value, then we will know that we will need a greater amount of money to move and that we will have to put together that amount to buy that apartment.

Another consideration that we cannot ignore is that in certain situations the quantities must be exact because the success of something depends on them, but on the other hand it may happen that in a given situation it is not necessary to respect the quantities that are required a priori.
