An application is a computer program that is used as a tool for a specific operation or task.

For computing, an application is one of several types of computer programs specially designed to fulfill a function or act as a tool for specific user actions.

Unlike other programs such as operating systems, programming languages, and others, the application has the sole and main purpose of performing a specific task, often basic and quick and easy to use for the ordinary non-advanced user.

The most frequent reason for creating a computer application is the need to solve a problem or to simplify a complex operation. For example, a calculator application for a computer, or a program that allows you to watch videos on mobile devices, or another that compresses files for easy exchange.

The most typical applications are those that constitute components of a package such as Microsoft Office, which includes a word processor, spreadsheet, database and others.

In short, a computer application serves to save user time and money and, therefore, constantly new applications are developed by either basic users, advanced users or programmers, in order to simplify the use of a computer as much as possible.
