The concept that concerns us has a special use in the field of chemistry where it designates that substance that dissolves in a certain solvent, precisely the latter is the substance par excellence in which the solute dissolves. From both arises what is known as a solution, a homogeneous mixture between two substances that is characterized in that both do not react with each other.
We must emphasize that at the behest of a solution, the solute is the substance that occurs in the least amount, the solvent being the one that is present in the greatest proportion, and with regard to the properties of each one, none will be modified from the mixing, remaining the same, for example, in the same way as before merging.
The common thing is that the solute is embodied by a solid substance that dissolves in a liquid, generating a liquid solution that will contain the solid from its dissolution. Classic examples can be the dissolution of salt (solute) in water (solvent), or sugar (solute) in water (solvent).
Conditions that add to solubility
It will be said that a solute has solubility when it is capable of dissolving satisfactorily in a certain solvent. Issues such as temperature, pressure, if we are dealing with a gaseous solute, are issues that affect the solution.
When no more solute can be dissolved in a solution, it will be because it is saturated, meanwhile, when the saturation level passes, it will speak of supersaturated.
However, not all substances are capable of dissolving in the same solvent. In water, to cite a common example, alcohol and salt dissolve while oil and gasoline will not be able to dissolve. The polarity and apolarity characteristics of the substance will have a significant impact on this aspect. This characteristic will make the substance more or less soluble.
