definition of transgender

The term transgender is applied to people who change their sexual condition, from men to women or vice versa. This change usually occurs because people feel in a different body than the one in their mind. As it is a transformation process that turns them into "other people" there is a period of transit between one sexual condition and another. Obviously, this type of process is accompanied by a certain psychological imbalance, as well as various family and social problems.

The transgender person does not have a genetic or hormonal problem, since biologically they belong to a defined sex. The specialists in these transformations consider that the reason for this change is relatively simple and that these people were born in the wrong body.

The trans generation questions the boy / girl model

The significant number of people who yearn for a change in sexual identity has led to the concept of the trans generation being coined. The search for a new identity is usually accompanied by some diverse circumstances: job discrimination, legal problems, a certain social marginalization and the need to undergo physiological and aesthetic changes for long periods of time.

Despite the peculiar circumstances that transgender people go through, in recent years there has been a social change regarding them and they have gone from marginalization to becoming new cultural icons. Some trans are highly valued in the world of fashion, music or creation in general.

It could be said that the rejection they suffered in other times has been transformed into recognition and acceptance

This social recognition has been reflected in some media, in television series and in movies, where trans issues have been treated as a sign of personal freedom, as stories of overcoming and as the struggle of some people for a more tolerant world and open.

The traditional boy or girl model ceases to make sense with the emergence of the trans generation. It is still a stigmatized sector by a part of society but there is a gradual acceptance of the identity of trans people.

The trans generation has an undeniable symbolic value. They represent a new paradigm in the classic concept of sexual identity and, at the same time, they are a collective that wants to fully integrate into society and without being seen as weirdos, deviants or provocateurs.
