definition of contempt

The attitude of contempt shows the lack of respect towards another person through unfair and derogatory treatment. When a person feels despised, he feels that his dignity has been hurt. It is a gesture of humiliation through which one person treats another with an attitude of superiority.

Those who feel humiliated feel that they have been the victim of an unjust action that has caused them undeserved pain. The attitude of contempt is accompanied in many cases by arrogance since this attitude of being a haughty person is what enhances the relationship of superiority over the other. Through this attitude, the other person who is a victim of this treatment is undervalued.

Humiliation

The word contempt includes the word appreciation. That is, when a person feels contempt for another, they experience little sympathy, there is little emotional empathy and a lack of affection. Who does this feeling cause suffering? Mainly, to those who suffer it because it produces unpleasant emotions such as rejection.

A person who humiliates another may appear to be very self-assured and confident. However, this attitude, far from showing self-confidence and high self-esteem, reveals the deep inferiority complex of one who needs to lower the other to reaffirm himself.

This type of attitude significantly hinders personal relationships because those who behave in this way have many prejudices that prevent them from relating freely with others. After having despised a person, who has carried out a specific action can take the initiative to apologize for his mistake since every human being can make mistakes.

However, contempt is one of those feelings that, like envy, people tend to morally censor, for this reason, they do not naturally recognize what they feel.

Observations in this regard

Contempt is not a healthy attitude on an emotional level because it prevents the person who suffers from treating the other person objectively. There is a big difference between one person not liking another and experiencing contempt for that person. This feeling is linked to hatred. Even if one person is not liked by another, he deserves to be treated with respect since both concepts are not incompatible.
