definition of region

The word Region is a term widely used in the field of Geography and which has different uses to its credit. Because in general terms, a region designates an area or a certain extension of land or water that is smaller in size than the total area of interest to which it belongs.

But in turn, the term region is also used to refer to those larger areas that correspond to a specific site.

Therefore, a region can be the province of a country, the sum of several provinces of a country, a community, such as the European Community, a small region or a small valley in a mountain, that is, a region can be understood both as a continuous set of smaller units or the section of a larger whole.

There is nothing concrete that defines a region, it is rather abstract questions, with common characteristics, which will define a region as such; physical, human, functional, among others.

Regarding the territorial organization of the countries and as we mentioned above, the term region serves to designate a political division of the territory of the state in question, which will be determined more than anything by ethnic, demographic, cultural, historical characteristics, economic, or some other considerations such as climate, topography, government or administration.

Thus we will be able to find an economic region that is in which a very specific product will be developed that will be marketed with other regions of the country or with a cultural region, which will be in which festivities, dances, among others, characteristic and original and that by that tradition that they knew how to display and maintain them, they became over the years in regions that basically took care of maintaining and making a region, a place in which what stands out is the cultural.
