definition of different

The word different It is a term that we usually use with recurrence in our language, since it has two basic uses.

On the one hand, we apply the word to designate that or who stands out for being varied, uneven, different, peculiar.Although Juan and María are twins, if you look at them closely they are different for several reasons, María has light eyes and Juan does not and she has a turned up nose and he has an aquiline.

Generally, the use of the word different is given at the request of wanting to indicate when the issues, things or people, that are related or linked to each other do not turn out to be the same but rather the opposite, turn out to be dissimilar.

And the other use that the different word assumes allows to express that which is differently. Laura dresses very differently than she did a year ago, the influence that the stylist she hired has had on her appearance is remarkable.

It is worth noting that this last sense of the term is widely used at the behest of a scenario of opinion or exchange of ideas, since it is the same in which the presence of different positions becomes more evident, or, failing that, where they appear different views on the same topic. My father thinks very differently from me when it comes to politics, he is more conservative and I am more progressive.

Meanwhile, the different word is closely linked with another term, that of difference, which generally arises when talking about something different. The difference involves the quality that allows us to distinguish two things, two issues, two people, among other alternatives.

In other words, difference supposes the opposite of similarity and equality, thus, when talking about it, it will be because there are no coincidences between things, that is to say, they do not present similarities, quite the contrary, they do not share in any way any characteristic or quality.
