Understanding is a recurring intellectual process among human beings and that allows the elaboration of a meaning through the apprehension of the most important ideas in a text and then linking them with concepts that already have meaning in the reader in question..
Undoubtedly, it is during comprehension that the reader interacts with the text that he is reading and is capable of making that link that we mentioned and this is important to clarify because not always when reading a person can decipher or understand the message in question. Or even, in some cases after reading the person may misunderstand the message in question.
The text can be understood in various ways, literal mode, only understanding the data that is explicitly exposed; review, which implies the formulation of judgments about the values presented by the text; and inferential, understanding that implies the reading between the lines of what is proposed in the text, that is, one understands what is still wanted to say and even though it is not done in an expository and explicit way.
There are some general factors that affect the understanding of a reading and these are: the type of reader and reading in question, the previous knowledge of the reader and the methodology used by the reader.
