definition of lift

By lift is meant the action of staying suspended (for example, the lift of an airplane in the air). On the other hand, it also means maintenance or support of something (the support or sustenance of the family depends on the economic income).

How does the lift of an airplane work?

The fact that an airplane can stay in the air is due to a force, the lift force. This force is produced by the fuselage and other parts of the plane. In this sense, there are two theoretical principles that explain this phenomenon: Bernoulli's theorem and Newton's third law. The first theory applied to airplanes comes to say that the curvature of the aircraft wings causes a pressure difference in the upper and lower part of the wing and this difference is what generates lift. According to Newton's third law, every action has a reaction with the same force but in the opposite direction and if we apply this principle to the curvature of the wings of an airplane, a mechanism of action and reaction is produced that finally produces the lift of an airplane.

Support of a thesis

In the academic language of the university world, students carry out a research thesis, which they must present before a court. A thesis is a complex work with a specific structure (normally there are four sections: statement of what is being investigated, a theoretical foundation, a specific method and finally the final results of the investigation). When these four sections have been developed, it is necessary to explain them orally in court.

The moment of realization of said presentation is known as the support of a thesis (also known as the defense of the thesis). Once the student has successfully completed his support, he can already obtain the corresponding degree or master's degree.

Generally the support of a thesis is subject to a time limitation. Consequently, it is important that the student rehearse it beforehand in order to perform it as well as possible. Good research work can be damaged by poor lift. For this reason, there are a series of practical tips so that the support of the thesis is favorable for the court that judges and evaluates it: practice the presentation in advance, do not read during the presentation, use slides to reinforce the arguments, speak clearly so that the members of the jury do not have to consult the thesis and try not to argue with the jury at the time of the final questions.
