definition of silkscreen

Popular printing procedure that consists of printing a fabric using ink and a mesh

Screen printing is one of the most widely used printing processes in the world and consists of printing a fabric using ink and a mesh. On any material it is possible to copy a drawing or an image that has been duly engraved on a matrix of wires or metal. In those parts where there is no image, the transfer of ink is prevented through the blockage generated by an emulsion or varnish.

The mesh will be tightened in a frame and thus the procedure for transferring the ink to the receiving material will be optimized, and as we already indicated above lines, where the passage of ink is not required, a varnish will be used to block it. Meanwhile, the pressure exerted on the mesh will be what will allow the stamping.

Benefits: it can be applied on any material and repeated as many times as you want without compromising the quality of the printed matter.

The main advantage recognized and attributed to this printing procedure is that it can be repeated as many times as you like without compromising the quality of the print. And another advantage that we cannot ignore is that we can apply it on any type of material.

Millennial use that originates in the East

This printing method is certainly one of the oldest, millennial we could say, since it is known from some records that it began to be used in the East in the year 3,000 BC. In the caves, in dishes and fabrics, they were the first materials on which the technique was used, while at the beginning of the last century it began to be used on paper, more precisely at the request of the field of advertising.

Its diffusion in the 20th century

Already installed during the twentieth century, it spread from advertising to the artistic field, being one of the most used forms of expression by plastic artists.

In our days, then, screen printing is installed as one of the most effective printing methods and it is also one of those that we will be able to find more daily since it appears in graphic advertising campaigns, in artistic works, in clothing, in objects of metal and ceramic, bottles, labels, among so many products.
