definition of recurring

Recurrent is what happens periodically. In other words, what happens again with some regularity.

The idea of recurrent implies that something is repeated again, that is, in a time interval there is a repetition. Let's see this description through two examples: "the striker has a recurring injury", "I have a recurring dream in relation to my childhood". In both cases, it is expressed that a phenomenon appears and disappears.

In the context of health problems, we speak of recurrent pathologies or diseases, in the sense that their symptoms are not permanent but appear intermittently.

Recurring phenomena

Certain aspects of reality have a cyclical dimension. This implies that there are phenomena that do not always occur but that it is foreseeable that they will manifest themselves in the future. The idea of "recurring phenomena" is based on experience. If in a process of change there is an element that periodically appears with some regularity, the logical thing is that sooner or later that element appears.

Capitalist system

In the capitalist system the economic cycles are happening and in a recurrent way an economic crisis occurs, which is overcome and after a period of time it reappears again.

Seasons of the year

Nature works with more or less regular patterns (the seasons are a clear example of this regularity). In the case of natural catastrophes, we are not talking about something isolated but they are recurrent. Given this reality, scientists try to predict them well in advance to minimize their impact. In some areas of the planet, hurricanes, earthquakes or forest fires are recurrent.

The sad recurrence of war

From the earliest times there have been periods of war that have affected humanity. War as a recurring phenomenon is an indisputable fact. It is practically impossible to refer to a prolonged stage in which there is no warlike confrontation.

One of the phenomena that has a cyclical sense is that of fashion. Different styles of clothing or hairstyle appear and disappear. From a historical point of view, the evolution of fashion can be observed as something recurrent. Let's think, for example, in the different haircuts and it can be seen that they stop being fashionable for a while and unexpectedly they are again.

From a cultural perspective it is also possible to talk about some recurring themes, those that never completely disappear (freedom, justice or beauty).
