This condition is characterized because the subject who suffers it has more than one personality which will act in totally different ways. That is, the other self of the individual suffering from this disorder is diametrically opposed to the original personality of the person.
For example, one may be friendly and warm while the other hostile and very aggressive.
To make an accurate diagnosis of the suffering of this dissociative identity disorder or alter ego, the personalities or dissociated personality must exercise control of the person's behavior in a habitual way, that is, it must be a recurring issue.
This disorder is usually accompanied by a lack of memory or amnesia.
It should be noted that this manifestation will not be taken into account if the person is under the effects of psychoactive drugs or suffering from a special clinical picture.
