Appearing is the action by which a person appears in a place, usually because it has been summoned in advance. The corresponding noun is appearance (for example, "I have an appearance before the judge next week").
Appear is a word in common use, although it is usually used in a formal or administrative context. Thus, if someone goes to a friend's house, this term would not be used.
Appear in court
The action of justice is accompanied by a specific terminology and to appear is a word of the legal field. When in the process of an investigation, a judge needs someone to present his testimony on a matter, he requests the appearance of those people who can provide relevant information.
