Orthothanasia is the word that is also used to designate the concept of dignified death, that is, it is a synonymous of dignified death.
Orthothanasia, then, implies the death of an individual, who suffers from a terminal or irreversible disease, that is, it is proven that their medical situation has no turning back, accompanied by all those medical care and relief that are available so that it does not cause any type of additional condition to the patient. In other words, the doctor must provide the patient with palliative methods that avoid suffering until death comes naturally.
Also, it can be understood as the right of any patient to decide to die with dignity and not be subjected to invasive practices that further increase their pain and prolong life without any kind of expectation other than to continue contributing to the pain or a survival in which there is no possibility of development or evolution whatsoever.
It should be noted that it in no way supposes the abandonment of the patient until death arrives, or in an even more complex stage, the acceleration of death from some practice. And this is precisely where it differs substantially from the euthanasia, given that orthothanasia under no point of view proposes the deliberate anticipation of death.
Around this issue, such as euthanasia, there are numerous voices for and against; Among those who rise up against, the main and most resounding argument they make is that as long as there is life, there is hope of recoveryTherefore, it should be fought in this regard at all costs.
