Registration is a polysemic word, but in its different meanings it has something in common: the idea of official registration. In one sense, it is about the incorporation of a student to a teaching center and, in the other, it is the distinctive plate of a vehicle.
In the field of teaching
As a general rule, educational centers have a procedure for receiving students. Enrollment in a training center is subject to a series of administrative procedures. These procedures are known by the term registration.
Enrollment is intended to register on the lists of the Ministry of Education and with this procedure it is possible to keep track of the school population (the statistical data that are handled are logically obtained from the enrollments). Each type of educational center has its own criteria when it comes to enrolling a student, as a public school is not the same as a private or concerted one.
Normally the formalities in the enrollment of private centers are less demanding, since the main criterion for student acceptance is economic. That corresponding to that of a student in public education depends on a series of factors: place of residence, parents' work area, social situation, etc.
A distinctive element in vehicle driving
Most of the vehicles that circulate on the roads must be officially registered (the exception to this rule refers to bicycles, which is a means of transport that generally does not carry a license plate). The distinctive plate of a vehicle is the element that certifies its correct registration in official bodies.
The license plate provides useful information on different aspects: the country of origin of the vehicle, the series of manufacture, the year of manufacture, etc. Of course, the numbers and letters used on license plates allow authorities to establish more effective security controls. Today, the police have advanced technology to identify the license plate of a vehicle with which a traffic offense has been committed.
In some large cities, the vehicle registration number is the parameter used to limit circulation and thus reduce air pollution (for example, license plates that end with an even number can only circulate on even days).
Although the license plates identify vehicles, in some cases this rule is not followed, such as diplomatic vehicles, those of the armed forces or those used by non-governmental organizations.
