definition of suffrage

The suffrage term is known as the person who performs the act of fulfilling a suffrage or vote. As with other words such as' president 'or' singer ', the term' suffragant 'refers to an act that is being carried out at the moment and that supposes an action, or in other words' the one who is performing or complying with his suffrage. '

The term suffrage, as you can imagine, has very different characteristics according to the region of the world in which we find ourselves, since being an action that implies a certain political and ethical responsibility, the person who carries out the vote must have some requirements that they can vary according to the place (for example, certain age, origin, knowledge, ability, etc.). In almost all countries where there is a suffragette figure, it applies only to adults over 18 or 21 years old, since it is considered that only after that age is an individual capable of forming a serious political vision. In some countries, such as Argentina, this requirement has recently been altered to include young people from the age of 16 in the suffrage status (although not mandatory).

The voter is a person who has a moral and political duty to participate in elections or suffrage in his country. Thus, it is understood as a duty since it is not just any activity but rather it represents certain responsibilities and that it, therefore, must be taken seriously. However, we cannot speak of a voter who does not fulfill his duty since an individual only becomes a voter at the moment he casts his vote. That is to say that this act is the condition to become such.

The act of voting is a right of great importance for any democracy since it is with it that the election of rulers can be carried out in the hands of the people. This political and collective action is relatively recent in world history, not having existed before the 19th century in any part of the world (although something similar already existed in Ancient Greece).
