Social

definition of debauchery

The term 'debauchery' is used to refer to those behaviors and behaviors considered immoral, that do not respect the law and that are aimed at the pursuit of immediate pleasure regardless of the consequences or the way that such behaviors will affect the rest of the members of the the society. It is important to note that although it shares certain elements with the idea of freedom, debauchery certainly carries a negative charge since it implies debauchery and immorality.

Licentiousness is a common feature of life in society. This is so insofar as societies are complex phenomena that can oscillate between absolute control and authoritarianism, on the one hand, and full freedom and debauchery, on the other. When the balance leans towards the latter, then debauchery appears, understood as the set of behaviors and ways of acting that are considered immoral and unethical.

Typically, the notion of debauchery is associated to a greater extent with sexual and pleasure-seeking behaviors. Examples of this can be the demonstrations of affection or sexual attraction in public spaces, as well as those that take place in the private sphere but that imply the 'alteration' of the parameters considered normal for sexual relations (the practices as a whole, the use of elements of violence, etc).

However, debauchery can also be understood as a lack of respect for the laws established by society. Phenomena such as crime, insecurity, the presence of homeless people on public roads, etc., are also possibly considered as factors of the debauchery in which a society finds itself. Traditionally, this term is used by those sectors of society that are shown as conservative and traditionalist, respectful of the law and excessively structured.
