URL is a sequence of characters used to name and locate resources, documents and images on the Internet.

URL stands for "Uniform Resource Locator", or "Uniform Resource Locator". In short, it is a series of characters that respond to a standard format and that allow to classify resources uploaded to the Internet for their download and use.

Although since 1994 the concept of URL has been integrated into the broader URI ("Uniform Resource Identifier" or "Uniform Resource Identifier"), URLs are still used to refer to links on the Internet.

In 1991 the URL was used for the first time by Tim Berners-Lee and, as now, it began to be used for the purpose of locating documents on the Web and assigning them hyperlinks to locate and link them to each other.

When browsing the Web, we all use URLs to find the information we are looking for by entering them in the address bar and clicking or Enter so that the browser directs us to the desired address. Each web page has a unique URL and that is why it is so easy to use.

Typically, a URL combines information from the name of the computer providing the data, its location directory, file name, and protocol to use. For example, a common case of URL would be: //www.definicionabc.com. In this case, "http" is a scheme to be followed by the URL. And, in turn, each address must follow a specific syntax. In general, in addition, URLs are written in lowercase, but web browsers often convert uppercase to lowercase if we use them. New browsers can also update the URL information if the URL has changed or been redirected.

Whenever we want to exchange information, direct an individual to a resource on the Web, or publish our own content, we will use URLs as pointers.
