definition of interdisciplinarity

The word interdisciplinarity allows to account for the relationship between various disciplines; more precisely it is about the quality of interdisciplinary, while interdisciplinary is conceived to what can be done through the cooperation of various disciplines.

Link between various disciplines that allows solving complex problems that require a comprehensive look

There are issues or situations that require yes or yes the participation of several sciences to explain conditions and also to find some solutions to certain problems, which could never be found in a single science, since the problem has different edges.

In interdisciplinarity, always, The integration of different theories, data, formulas and instruments will be privileged in order to arrive at a multidimensional knowledge of the phenomena under study..

It should be noted that interdisciplinarity arose to directly combat the typical problems that arise in research, because by finding the disciplines linked to each other and also by being owners of well-defined relationships, not only the dispersion but also the fractionation of knowledge will be avoided.

Thanks to the aforementioned interconnection, it will be possible to approach the issue from all perspectives, in a comprehensive way and thus it will be possible to stimulate new methodological perspectives for the solution of problems.

Almost all the sciences of today turn to interdisciplinarity to develop more and better.

Emergence of the concept and the impetus that scientific and technological development gave it

The concept of interdisciplinarity first appeared around late thirties of last century and its creation is due to sociologist Louis Wirtz.

Basically it has been the technical and scientific development that promoted the appearance of new scientific branches, that is, the advance of time, and the arrival of an increasingly complex world generated the need for problems, issues, conjunctures, to be addressed from various subjects or disciplines, in order to understand it and move towards an effective solution, a question that could not be done with just a glance.

For example, the biotechnology (any application of a technological nature that uses biological systems or living organisms to create or modify products) is a discipline widely used at the behest of agriculture, pharmacy, food science, medicine and the environment and that involves several sciences such as: genetics, biochemistry, biology, virology, agronomy, medicine, engineering, chemistry, physics and veterinary medicine.

The current development of technology and science and globalization, demands the integration of knowledge, so any sociocultural or professional problem that a person faces is impossible to be approached from a single discipline, it will require the collaboration of several subjects or disciplines because in this way the problem can be addressed in a comprehensive way, without leaving areas without being explored and contemplated, and finally offer an integrative solution to the problem in question.

Interdisciplinarity must be understood as a process that allows conflict resolution, communication, analyzing and contrasting data and information, defining problems and identifying what is important from what is not in any way.

The goal to be achieved is the development of professionals and students, and this cannot be the responsibility of a single discipline, but rather all the subjects involved in said training must be brought together in order for the objective to be achieved.

Problems such as those of global warming can never be solved from a single discipline or from a single vision, these are such large and complex problems, involving so many factors, that it is necessary that several subjects related to this issue come together and nurture each other to find an effective solution, otherwise you will surely fail.

And let's not forget that interdisciplinarity not only implies a mix of disciplines addressing a subject but also several and diverse professionals, with views and training that are not the same and that precisely in that variety they will find an integrating solution.

And also the opposing currents of thought, even with their own specific perspectives on the issues they study and that are quite far from concordance with others, will be able to find a common point in the enriching discussion that leads to the resolution of an issue.
