definition of diagnosis

Diagnosis is the first and most important tool available to a health professional in any area to approach the understanding and possible treatment of the healthy conditions of an individual. The diagnosis is the result of the analysis that is carried out in the first instance and whose purpose is to allow to know the specific characteristics of the determined situation in order to act accordingly, suggesting treatment or not. This diagnostic analysis is based on the observation of symptoms existing in the present or in the past.

The term diagnosis comes from Latin, diagnosis, a word that in turn has been taken from the Greek and that means "to discern" or "to learn" about certain elements. Normally, a diagnostic procedure is suggested in the presence of abnormal elements or symptoms for certain situations according to the parameters commonly accepted as natural. The diagnosis can be applied to ratify or rectify the presence of a disease, as well as to know its evolution in the case of confirming it. Medical diagnosis can result from different types of analysis, some simpler and superficial but also from others more complex and profound, especially in the case of serious illnesses. In most cases, in order to complete a proper and accurate diagnosis, you must have extra material, be it small instruments or complex and sophisticated medical equipment.

Although it is closely related to medicine, the word diagnosis can also be applied to other activities. In this sense, it is also possible to carry out a school diagnosis, a diagnosis of the operation of a company, of a certain type of device, etc. Each of these cases has its own system for analyzing and evaluating the present characteristics, as well as a particular way of putting the required action into practice.
