definition of charisma

Coming from the Greek language (kharisma, 'divine favor', 'gift'), the word charisma has to do with the possession of characteristics that can transform a person into an attractive, motivating, seductive and magnetic being on different levels. A charismatic person is always one who can communicate with other people, usually with large masses, in a simple and attractive way, maintaining interest and arousing their attention both for the content and the forms of a specific message.

Charisma is an individual quality that usually develops over time and according to certain elements that have to do with a person's personality, ease of communication, and ease of expression. Although it can also be acquired voluntarily, in general, a charismatic person does not need to force the situations in which this quality becomes visible since they occur spontaneously. A charismatic person is generally a person who enjoys having the attention of a certain audience of people, communicating and who also has ease when it comes to establishing interpersonal relationships.

Although the charisma of a person can be present in numerous moments of daily life in which one is not seeking to communicate directed or specific messages, today the term of charisma it applies especially to those popular leaders (political, religious, cultural and entertainment), who have the facility to capture a more or less important audience of people in order to transmit previously organized and selected ideas and beliefs.

In this sense, the politics of the masses of the 20th century has seen the emergence of numerous charismatic leaders who made this quality the basis of their contact with the public. Although many of them used this charisma in a positive way, such as Martin Luther King, John F. Kennedy, Pope John Paul II, Ghandi, John Lennon and Bono, many others used these skills for negative political ends. like Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, Joseph Stalin among others.
