The term misrepresent allows to designate in our language the erroneous or disfigured interpretation of words, comments, or facts, among others. The meaning of a speech or an event is changed voluntarily and intentionally, or not, to generate the wrong interpretation in the public or recipient of the message.

Many times the misrepresentation is not done on purpose but is the result of a mistake, however, the usual thing is to use it on purpose to deliberately produce inconvenience.

Undoubtedly, misrepresentation is one of the most common causes of arguments and fights between people.

The fundamental mission of misrepresentation is to falsify and distort a saying or event to cause an effect totally different from that of the actual saying or event, as it happens.

People often misrepresent sayings or facts to change the meaning of what someone says and thus, for example, demonstrate it in a totally different way so that others, for example, do not like it or do not follow it in some way. And on the other hand, people often use misrepresentation to get out of an embarrassing situation but without malicious intent, that is, the idea is to excuse yourself from something.

The misrepresentation will always imply the modification of a reality and that is why the concept is loaded with a totally negative connotation.

The fragility of misrepresented communication

At the level of mass communication, that is, that undertaken by the media such as radio, television, newspapers, it is extremely important that what is reported to the public is a true reflection of reality, any misrepresentation that is made about a The event or the saying of someone will imply the manipulation of the news and will of course affect the credibility of the journalist or communicator and of course also that of the medium.

Use in law

On the other hand, at the level of law, the concept is used to refer to a legal figure, fraudulent misrepresentation, and that implies the realization of a false statement in which important information is omitted on purpose, for example, a party gives a fake name on a contract.
