definition of twitter

We understand Twitter as that online platform that is commonly used to establish different statuses, to put information or to make comments about different events of a person in only 140 characters. Twitter is today one of the most popular and used online communication platforms due to its ease, its quick access and the simplicity of its registration and use system. Twitter can also be defined as a social network of a similar type to Facebook since it allows people to talk about their different daily activities and that others can see and know it at the same time.

Twitter was created in 2006 (although still primitive) by Jack Dorsey, Evan Williams and Biz Stone, in the city of San Francisco, California. The idea of these three young creatives was to create a system that could be recognized as the Internet SMS, alluding to the instant messaging system that cell phones and other communication devices have. As the latter allow communicating information in a written way in an abbreviated number of characters, the idea was replicated for an online platform from which different users could publish their most immediate actions not only for acquaintances but for anyone.

One of the main characteristics of Twitter, which makes it unique and very particular, is the fact that each user can have their own followers, people who like their comments and who constantly read what that user posts. This notion of followers is very interesting since it allows a person to be in contact with the people who interest him the most, which is achieved through the clouds of tags or keywords that unite the general interests of the user with those of other people and thus put them in permanent contact.
