definition of haughty

The concept of arrogance is a qualifying adjective that is used to designate a certain pattern of behavior or attitudes that a person may have in regards to their relationships or social ties. In this particular case, the word is in the feminine gender which means that it would apply only to women or to female subjects. A haughty person is one who has the attitude of haughtiness. Haughtiness is a way of behaving in front of others, a way that always supposes a significant level of pride and self-centeredness when assuming that haughty person is better or superior to the others around him. Haughtiness is very common in different social ties and even some people may not be so permanently if not in some specific circumstances in which they feel special or very safe.

When we use the qualifying adjective haughty or haughty, we are making a somewhat negative description about the person because we are trying to make it clear that the attitude of that person is based on believing that he or she is superior to others when in reality each person has their elements unique and particular. Haughtiness normally makes it difficult for the person with this attitude to establish sincere and lasting ties because, believing himself to be superior to others, it is difficult for him to find elements to share in them.

Haughtiness as an attitude can be found in very different areas such as social spaces. Thus, it is common to see, for example, arrogance in spaces or work environments in which competition between colleagues is permanent and very strong. It is also common to find a haughty person in certain social strata who, because they have more material goods or a better quality of life and access to better benefits, are implicitly assumed to be more important than people who may belong to other lower social strata.
