definition of abuse of authority

The concept of authority abuse, also designated as abuse of power, is a fairly common behavior that occurs in our society and that consists of that individual or authority who has power over others just flaunt and use it to subject them to their designs and in this way use them to obtain benefits.

However, it should be noted that abuse of authority can occur in various areas, in politics, in a work context, and even in the privacy of the home. Meanwhile, the modality is identical to the above, whoever holds the authority or power asserts it in order to achieve their objectives through different mechanisms of coercion. Normally he threatens or exercises physical violence on others to get what he wants.

With some examples we will see it more clearly, a boss, taking advantage of his position and the authority that comes from it, forces an employee to carry out a task that does not correspond to him under the threat of firing him if he does not comply effectively with the same.

On the other hand, a political authority, such is the case of a president, uses the power granted by his office to illegally detain a leader opposed to his government.

In another vein, abuse of authority is often seen at the behest of the police. Unfortunately, there are many cases of police officers who in the performance of their tasks exceed the use of violence. Thus, it is recurrent to hear of cases in which a detainee was beaten by a policeman during his arrest, or in prison.

One can also speak of abuse of authority by this security force when a person is arrested without the corresponding order of a judge or arbitrarily without a specific cause.

The aforementioned examples are representative of the concept and undoubtedly have a constant presence in our society, no doubt.

It is worth mentioning that the abuse of authority is considered a crime by most of the legislations and in case its commission has a punishment.
