The term recover comes from the Latin language, language for which the prefix re means reiteration and capere it means to take, to grasp. In this way, we understand that the word recover has the sense of taking something back, of catching it again when it has already been undone. The concept of recovering is widely used today when we refer to environmental issues (for example, recovering paper) or also when we refer to issues that have to do with technology (for example, recovering a file that had been sent to the Recycle Bin).
The act of recovering is an act that always involves taking again, using or grabbing something that had already been thrown away or that had long lost use. It can be used in different ways, both practical and abstract, depending on what you want to communicate. In this way, we can talk about recovering a piece of wood or cloth that had already been disposed of in the trash, as well as recovering a life when we talk about someone who, for example, has an addiction and recovers his normal and healthy life later of an appropriate treatment. You can also talk about taking back a factory under the hands of other people, in which case it would also be something in a certain abstract sense.
As it was said at the beginning, the two most common uses today that this term receives are those that have to do with the environment and with technology. In the first case, it is normal to talk about the recovery of elements that would otherwise be transformed into waste from the awareness of the generation of waste. In this way, we can talk about recovering or reusing those elements (paper, cardboard, cloth, wood, food, glass, batteries) that would otherwise be thrown away, thus generating more and more accumulation of waste.
In the case of technology, the term recover refers to the possibility of re-accessing items such as files, folders, programs, etc. that for some reason they had been lost (for example, if they are deleted or if they are no longer accessible).
