Social

definition of familiar

The term 'family' is an adjective that is used to indicate or designate everything relative and allusive to the notion of family. The family is a group of people related to each other by blood and political ties, it is considered the first experience of socialization of the human being since from it the man begins to be aware of himself as a being inserted in a world inhabited by others. The family is also the space where each individual learns customs, ideas, ways of behaving, thinking and living.

One of the most common ways in which the notion of family appears is one that assumes that a certain situation, event, object or person is known, not strange. This is understood this way because, regardless of whether or not that situation, event, object or person belongs to the family, they remind one of familiar, recognizable and understandable sensations. Saying that 'that house is familiar to me' does not necessarily mean that it is the dwelling place where one lived with their family group, but rather that it is recognizable or identifiable. Thus, the notion of family always refers to a pleasant feeling, of location and belonging in the known world.

On the other hand there is, obviously, the idea of family as something directly belonging to the family. For example, used as a noun, this word designates all the members and people that are part of that family, be they near or far. The idea that something is familiar because it belongs or is related to the family also enters here, for example when it is said that a car is the family car, it is because it is the car that the family normally uses, in the same way as a family ritual It is the ritual or act that the family in question always performs to face certain situations.
