pointer definition

The term pointer is undoubtedly one of the most easily understood and recognizable in technology. Although the pointer, which is always related to the mouse, is a derivation of the term cursor, which can refer to both the mouse and the keyboard, today it has its own entity. It is the electronic symbol through which the user can easily locate the movements of the mouse and apply the functions that it offers. In most cases, the word pointer is immediately associated with the little white arrow on the mouse, although it can take on innumerable forms.

When we talk about the pointer, we are referring to the mobile symbol that represents the movements of the mouse and that is used in graphical interfaces in which the user has the possibility of accessing icons, moving and moving, dragging and deleting them. The existence of the pointer is clearly related to the idea of having an element that allows easy marking and pointing, much as it is in real life to use a stick or a specific pointer.

The mouse pointer is diagrammed in such a way that it not only allows the user to access various functions, but also varies according to different specific situations, thus giving even more possibilities. While in word processors it can take the form of a vertical bar, in internet-related links it generally transforms into a hand, thus signaling the existence of a door to the internet connection. If one seeks help with certain elements or functions, the mouse pointer will take the form of a question mark.

On the internet there are numerous pages that offer one or several different types of pointers. More or less complex drawings, these pointer models are used to give touches of color and personality to each computer. However, the simple white arrow never loses its place and is the quintessential mouse pointer.
