definition of agrochemicals

Agrochemicals are chemical substances that are used with recurrence in agriculture and that have the purpose of maintaining and conserving the crops that this activity develops. Normally its use is linked to the intention of providing nutrients to crops, killing insects or any other organism that negatively affects them and also to eliminate weeds and fungi outright.

The mission for each case of these products is to optimize the performance of any agricultural operation to the maximum, that is, to produce more in order to achieve greater economic profits.

Use in agrochemicals

The concept is widely used at the behest of agricultural activity and more precisely in the field of action of agrochemistry or agricultural chemistry, which is a specialty of chemistry that deals with studying biochemical reactions that affect animal and plant development. . So, it is in this sense that this discipline studies the use of various organic substances and the application of chemicals such as pesticides or fertilizers in agricultural activity.

Pesticides

Pesticides, which are one of the most used agrochemicals, are placed on crops through fumigation to, as we have already pointed out, eliminate or prevent fungi, bacteria, insects or any other organism that can lethally affect the development according to crops.

Negative consequences for the environment and humans

However, when addressing this concept, we cannot ignore the negative and harmful effects for the soil and the natural environment that these chemical products usually generate. Because although they provide direct and concrete benefits to the crops, they are also capable of affecting the health of the people who come into contact with them, and also in some situations they pollute the environment, causing serious damage.

All agrochemicals have a very high degree of toxicity and therefore contact with them, whether by touching, eating or inhaling them, can lead to death.

Therefore, a conscious manipulation of them and the context in which they are applied is recommended. To apply them you should use gloves and chinstraps and avoid throwing them in places where animals and humans are known to interact.
