communication

definition of aggressive communication

There are different types of communication but not all of them produce the same results in the context of dialogue. Violence has different forms of expression, one of them, through the word as it is evident in the aggressive communication style in which the sender does not put himself in the place of the interlocutor, leaving aside empathy.

Aggressive communication is also reflected in body language since when a person is in emotional tension, their physical gestures also convey a specific rigidity. The person may show a haughty and arrogant posture as if challenging the other. This style of communication also feeds on the fear that the aggressor produces (verbal aggressiveness harms the other) in the victim.

Hurt through words

There are forms of verbal violence that can occur in a daily context, for example, screaming in couple discussions. People can feel especially vulnerable to the tendency towards this style of communication when they are stressed and overwhelmed by everyday obligations. For example, there are professionals who, after a stressful day at the office, come home and vent their anger at home.

Perception in the tonality of the voice, not just in the words used

The aggressive communication style can also be shown through the tone of voice, in fact, the same message can have a completely different meaning depending on the tone of voice that is given to those words.

This style of communication shows an emotional lack on the part of the one who must learn that talking to another person implies attending not only to personal interests but also to those of others.

There are forms of aggressive communication that can also be frequent in daily dialogue: complaints, personal reproaches, emotional blackmail or manipulation are a clear example of this.

Opposes passive style

The aggressive style of communication is opposed to the passive style that shows the role of the person who takes a secondary role in communication. Neither style of communication is appropriate since the ideal is to achieve the balance of assertiveness.

Currently, there are training courses on communication issues in which the student obtains the necessary tools to learn to express himself in a correct way, paying attention not only to the words but also to the form.
