The concept of nepotism is used especially in connection with the field of politics because it is a tendency, inclination that turns out to be quite frequent in this context and that consists in that a political leader or authority favors his inner circle, family, friends, among others, with public office or with some other benefit that comes directly from the state coffers.
In nepotism, the merit or professional qualities of a person do not matter, but what is privileged to give a position or function to someone is that he is a friend or relative of the person in power, because it is known that these will bring him loyalty and fidelity forever.
Without a doubt, nepotism is one of the most questionable and improper practices that exist in the politics of yesterday and today.
In other words, this type of behavior on the part of politicians is something that has been registered, observing in the politics of all times and in all political colors, unfortunately, of course.
In ancient Greece, during the Roman Empire, in European monarchies and in contemporary governments we can find cases of nepotism. A debt that the political leadership has with its constituents since practically time immemorial.
Because the ideal would be for politicians to surround themselves with or recommend suitable professionals to carry out a function x in the state and not for someone with great capacity to be taken over by a family member or friend of power, as is popularly said.
Along with corruption, nepotism is one of the great evils that haunts governments, especially those of a personalistic, autocratic nature, characterized by suspicion when it comes to giving capable and independent individuals spaces of power. Instead, characters are chosen who end up being subservient and functional to the power of the day.
In some way, nepotism is practicing, incurring in corruption, since generally those relatives and friends who are located in positions are usually assigned fabulous salaries, which most of the time are not justified and that they take away resources from the state to dedicate them to really important causes.
