definition of ecological tourism

The concept of ecological tourism is a very recent concept that has to do with the development of a very current trend in the area of tourism. As its name says, ecological tourism is a type of tourism that is interested in generating the least possible damage to the planet, resorting to the use of transport and renewable energy as well as the minimum generation of alterations to the natural ecosystem that is visited.

The term ecological tourism emerged in the last years of the 20th century when many regions of the planet began to suffer and clearly show the problem that mass tourism generates in their natural or traditional characteristics. Thus, natural places such as reserves, rural towns, beaches, ski centers, etc. began to show that the massive and constant passage of tourists had produced important changes in the appearance of the place such as pollution, depletion of natural resources, the appearance of new forms of energy and transport that alter the environment, construction of poles and complexes. tourism that do not take into account the natural characteristics of the place, etc.

In this way, the notion of ecological tourism appears as an alternative to conventional tourism. To better understand what it is about, we can say that it is a type of tourism that is based precisely on non-massiveness, that is, the places that lend themselves to this type of tourism are not prepared to receive huge numbers of people, but rather They have a reduced capacity in order to avoid the passage and the constant and massive transit of travelers.

On the other hand, ecotourism does not resort to the use of polluting energies such as oil, which is why many times in order to access these nature reservoirs it is necessary to use more traditional means of transport such as boats, carts, bicycles, etc. At the same time, all the services that are usually provided by a place considered as an ecological tourism space are centered around nature, which is why they do not usually have electricity, do not allow the use of technology, nor the arrival of products that They are not regional (since it is understood that they generate more pollution in their transport).

Finally, by being based precisely on nature and not on man-made artifacts, ecotourism always has as its main objective to make sure that guests can truly enjoy everything that surrounds us and what we rarely pay attention to, without damage or transform it.
