In this sense, the concept of divine design has historically had great importance to establish justification for different actions or ways of behaving of the human being that were understood as the will of God and then accepted by the bulk of the population. Examples of these situations are when states and rulers were established by divine design instead of being chosen by their abilities or by the vote of the population. In other cases, the notion of divine design can also be used to refer to natural catastrophes or tragedies.
