When we speak of contextualizing, we are referring to the action of putting something or someone in a specific context. This means surrounding it with an environment and a set of elements that have been combined in a unique and probably unrepeatable way in order to allow a better understanding of the whole to be obtained. Contextualization is a characteristic tool of the social sciences that assumes that individuals can never be isolated from their environment as happens with the natural sciences and that, therefore, they must always be analyzed in relation to the set of phenomena that surround them.
The context could then be defined as a set of elements or phenomena that are completely and permanently related to each other. The elements, situations or circumstances that occur in a certain context will not be the same as the elements, situations or circumstances that occur with another context since everything that surrounds them and that influences their formation will not be the same.
Normally, the social sciences, as well as the communication sciences, state that taking into account the context in which a particular event, work of art, situation or phenomenon occurs is extremely important. Unlike what happens with the empirical sciences that can establish a repeatable study method for different cases, the human sciences assume that man's actions are always the consequence of an environment that shapes him and directs him to act in this or that way.
The historical context that gave rise to the French Revolution was particular and unrepeatable since it was a summation of elements that allowed the specific development of such events. The social, political and even personal context of an artist also greatly influences the style that person takes to carry out their works. Thus, contextualizing becomes the clear act of locating a phenomenon, an event, an object or a human work in a specific and particular environment that justifies and explains it.
