communication

definition of topic

The word topic is used to designate a topic, to refer to an idea or a form of stereotype that is usually applied in certain situations or moments. A topic can be understood as a topic to talk about or investigate, it is the object of discussion, for example when it is said that insecurity is the topic of the day. The topic idea is related more than anything to communication as well as literature or art since a literary topic can be a literary topic on which to write.

In linguistics, the topic is the subject on which it is spoken or the subject to which reference is made, understood subject not as person but as matter, subject. For this branch of communication, the topic is the center of a debate, conversation or discussion while comments are those discursive forms that are built around the proposed topic or issue. Normally, the topic can invite to mention different ideological positions since it is something to talk about and about what each individual may or may not have a formed opinion.

In other words, the topic or subject of a discussion is that on which the discursive action is centered independently of the circumstantial comments that may be formed in each situation. When debates or exhibitions are organized, a topic is usually specified, which will be the subject on which to debate or speak and on which all the comments that are made should be based.

At the same time, the notion of topic is applied to grammar, the topic being the center of the sentence without which it would not be understood. An example of this is in a sentence with subject and predicate like The house is red, the topic of the same can be precisely the house.
